Caveat Emptor: Three Things You Need To Be Aware When Purchasing Items
Caveat emptor (Latin) translates to buyer must beware. This old adage means that a purchaser must be keen on details so that one would be able to receive value for money spent. For people on a budget and looking for a way to save money without sacrificing quality, this warning also applies to each and every shopper. Be aware and beware of the following things when shopping. One may end up spending more than actually saving. The following are some things one must be aware of:
1) On Sale Bulk Items
The first order of business when looking at On Sale Bulk Items is to determine how much one actually needs. One can easily be swayed by “buy one take one” offers or tempted by “Price off for two or more.” If one buys more than one needs, one actually spends more for the item and saves less. Determining what are essentials that can be bought in bulk at a sales discount or some frivolous knick knack offered in bunches is the key to waste or savings.
2) Checking Expiry Dates
One of the main reasons items go on sale is expiry dates or best before dates. The nearer the date is, the more urgency the seller needs to dispose of the item. So when one is considering purchasing individual items on sale (compared to bulk item sale), do read the labels as to its maturity date. It would be more costly for one to purchase an item but be unable to utilize it because of the expiry date. Not only that, health and safety must be a priority for if one is not too careful, medical bills would be added to the expense list.
3) Seasonal Sales
We are subjected to four seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. Each season with its own set of peculiarities and requirements. So with each seasonal change, the previous season's requirements (such as articles of clothing, accessories and the like) are sold on sale. One may think one can get bargain basement deals on these items, but sadly there is the trap of having these items kept in the basement only to be forgotten since three seasons come and go before actual use can be made.
So it is but normal that one forgets in some basement drawer the gloves bought during summer for winter use. This makes for more expenses and thus lesser savings. Either one makes an inventory of things bought off season (like that to die for bikini bought during dead winter) so that one can actually use it, or just stay away from off season sales if one has the penchant of being a pack rat.
So again, to make for savings, as a buyer one must always be aware and beware. Be aware of one's need for on sale bulk items, beware of expiration dates and be aware of items bought on seasonal sales. Here lies the difference between savings or unnecessary expenses that could have been avoided.
